I have always been interested in law enforcement and have recently decided to finally pursue it as a career. I have a few questions to help along the decision process. What is the academy like for most? I have a 4 year college degree, so if it is like college i shouldnt have a problem. I was an all-state soccer player and all region football player, so I shouldnt have a problem physically. I stay in shape, and keep my mind as sharp as I can. The only thing that seems to worry me is how the classes at the academy work. The only class in college I had trouble with was public speaking. Are students required to give presentations, read aloud, give a report to the class or anything of that nature? Is it run like a bootc camp? My brother is an army infantry airbourne, who is currently awaiting ranger school so i know how boot camp can be as well. I feel pretty prepared other than the public speaking stuff. Lastly, how are the about leaving on weekends? I have a wife and first born 3 month old son who I would really miss. i would love to see them as much as possible during the 9 weeks. I live in the Myrtle Beach area and would be applying here was the begin to hire again. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
they like to think it's like boot camp but it's not. it's like summer camp IMO. you will not have to do any public speaking but you will have to act out scene's infront of class mates and instructors. (unless things have changed since 02)
pt will not be a problem. it's more of a joke.
i did basic at ft. jackson which is a joke in the army world and it was 100xs harder than the sccja.
I have a 4 year degree too and from the academic standpoint, it is easier than college. Just study and you would do fine. Physical fitness isn't hard. We had some very out of shape guys make it through with no problem. It isn't run like bootcamp. I think the SCCJA is to easy from all standpoints: academics, physical fitness, etc. You have to leave on the weekends, so that is no problem. The dorms shut down, so you have to go home. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me and I will help you out any way I can.
I was employed with a department here in SC for a very short period. I graduated from the academy back in the Spring of 2004, but of course my certification is no good now since I resigned at the end of the Summer of 2004. I left on good terms and have had the same job for the past 5 years, but not in law enforcement. I regret the fact that I got out and really want to get back in. Does anyone think that any agency will take a chance on me since I got out so quickly?
